Korey Leeds walked around the seemingly empty cemetery for a few minutes trying to find the mutinous friend that she'd came with.  She could have sworn she was following him a minute ago, and now he was gone.  Hmph, Ashley Purdy.  Only he can get lost in plain sight.
No one can disappear that fast on accident.  He'd probably abandoned her on purpose. It made sense.   Ashley loved pulling pranks on people and scaring them; this had to be another one of his pitiful attempts.  He was probably hidden behind a tombstone waiting to see how scared she'd get.  She actually cracked up a little thinking about the idea.  She'd show him.  Make your way to the front entrance and leave him out in the cemetery, she thought.  Perfect.  But which way led out?  She came to the conclusion that she would just walk and find her way.
Korey was a beautiful girl.  She had light blonde hair that fell to her shoulders in perfect waves, big blue eyes that put the sky to shame, and a smile Andy would die for.  Andy Six loved his girlfriend so much, but he hated her hobby of paranormal investigating.  She and Ashley both had a passion for finding proof of life after death.  Andy on the other hand considered it a waste of perfectly good time.  She always tried her best to convince him to go, but every time he told her he always had plans.  She knew he was lying, but she didn't really care.  One party pooper can spoil everything, so quit bothering him and just took Ashley along.
As she walked, she noticed the air around her started to get cold; a tell tale sign of something paranormal.  Ashley had given her a voice recorder just for times like this, when she suspected something.  It was coming in handy now.  She took out the small device and began talking to the air, praying that she wouldn't hear anything.  If Ashley would have been with her, the story would have been different.  She would've taunted the ghosts and made them angry, but by herself she was terrified.  Ashley's plan was working.  She wasn't going to be scared.  Ashley was probably hid behind a tombstone nearly dying of laughter watching her, and her reactions to every noise.  That's exactly what he was doing, she was sure of it.  She figured she'd give him a good show, if that's what he was doing.  She pulled out the recorder and started something she would soon regret.
"Are there any spirits here that would like to communicate with me?"  she said, holding the diminutive gadget in the air.  After the words had barely fallen from her lips she felt a wave of sorrow just wash over her.  She wasn't sad herself-it felt different.  Like someone else was causing her to be sad.  Like she couldn't control her own emotions.
"Are you sad?"  Obvious question she figured she should ask.  Her response to that question was more severe.  She broke into sobs screaming and crying.  Something felt like death to her.  Was she dying?  Did someone she loved die?  She wasn't sure, but she was sure it had to do with death.  Which led her to her next question.
"Is someone dead?"  she was sure, based on how she felt, it was someone else.  Something in her mind told her husband.  The ghost of a grieving widow was using her body to communicate the emotions she had felt when her husband died.  Why that sentence entered her thoughts, she had no idea, but it made sense.  She'd heard of this sort of phenomena, but she'd never experienced it, as most people haven't.  She was still screaming and crying at the air, still no sign of Ashley.
"Did your husband die?"  she screamed between sobs.  As her response she collapsed to the ground in a fit of tears.  This was it, she knew it.  But she needed a name to tie to the death.
"What is your name?"  she managed to choke out before she gave into screaming again.  This time instead of the unearthly howl she'd been voicing, it came out as a word.  A name.
"MARY!!"  she screeched.  The sound of it was like that of a thousand nails against a schoolroom chalkboard.  Before she could collect herself enough to speak again, another word came out.
"HASTING!!"  The word came out in the same otherworldly manner as the first.  Korey rolled on the ground,  trying to fight the entity controlling her body.  She laid in the grass writhing like a snake would after its head had been severed from its slimy body.  The internal struggle was torture.  She rolled and fought with herself for at least fifteen minutes before she finally garnered enough strength to get up and run.
"ASHLEY!!!!"  she screamed as loud as her voice would allow.  Her running was more like limping and crawling, but she was willing to do anything to find Ashley, or any living human, by now.  She didn't care which way was front she just wanted away.  Away from what?  She didn't know or care at the current moment; she just wanted to go.  She kept running and falling until she was stopped dead in her tracks by a person.
"Korey, Korey?!  What's wrong?!"  he yelled looking at the dirty, disheveled girl in front of him.
She panted and gasped for air before answering, "Crying... EVP… Mary Hasting… Leave NOW!!"  She took off in the same direction again, seeing the exit was just within her sight.
Ashley chased after her, very confused, but knowing something was wrong.  She ran all the way back to the car and was sitting in the front seat crying her eyes out by the time Ashley arrived.  He hopped in the driver's seat and began comforting her without knowing the reason.
"It's okay, everything's okay.  I promise.  What happened?"  he comforted while wrapping the shaking girl in his arms.
"You LEFT me!!"   she screamed in between her tears.
"I'm so sorry.  I had no idea you weren't there.  I'm so, so, so, so, so, so, so sorry,"  he apologized.  His voice rung in her ears like the sound of angels singing, compared to the cryptic voices she'd heard previously.
"Mary Hasting,"  she sobbed.  Her face was buried into his shoulder and she was shaking from the trauma she'd experienced in the graveyard.  When she realized she was still holding the voice recorder, she handed to Ashley to hear.  He set it aside to let her finish crying before he'd listen.  She stayed in his arms bawling for at least another fifteen or twenty minutes, before she was able to compose herself enough to explain.
She wiped at her tears and sniffed back the mucous that was stuffing up her nose.  She looked at Ashley with her bright hazel eyes thanking him for being there.  She arrived at the conclusion that she should begin explaining the incident.
"Are you okay now?"  Ashley asked sweetly as he rubbed his thumb across her cheek, drying a tear that began to fall.  She shook her head as a response, and began divulging information.
"I noticed you weren't around when I looked up from where I was walking, and I figured you were hiding somewhere, trying to scare me,"  she began before being stopped.
"You know I would never be that mean,"  he said warmly, half scolding her for the thought.
"I should have, but I didn't.  So I figured you were hiding somewhere watching what I would do, when I realized you were gone.  I figured that I would try to be brave a do an EVP session by myself, because the air began to get cold.  So when I did, this happened,"  she said as she pressed the play button on the voice recorder.  The idea of having to relive the experience absolutely appalled her, so she stepped out of the car and shut the door so she wouldn't here the recording.  There was one lamp above the entrance of the cemetery illuminating the car.  From it's light she could see the reaction on Ashley's face with each question.  She could make out some grimaces, and frowns and then, when the recording reached her screaming Mary Hasting's name.  She saw a look of absolute horror on Ashley's face.  This was a look she'd never seen before.  He looked sick, disgusted, appalled, and repulsed all at the same time.
From the moment she pressed play Ashley listened intently to the recording.  "Are there any spirits that would like to communicate with me?"  he heard the gadget say.  The response was sobbing and he could have sworn he heard a yes, but he would analyze it later.  "Are you sad?"  The response was an ear splitting scream followed by sobbing.  Korey's sobbing for sure.  "Is someone dead?"  he heard the answer between sobbing.  He could faintly make out the words "Matthew" and "husband".  "Did your husband die?"  The sobbing and screaming only intensified.  "What is your name?"  The response this time was positively unnerving to him.  "MARY!"  "HASTING!"  The small device shook at the sound coming from it tiny speakers.  This even Korey could hear ten feet away from the car.  Then all he could hear was struggling and screaming, almost like Korey was being beaten and dragged.  That would explain her appearance.  It continued for a while before he heard gasping and running, then he heard his own voice, and he shut off the device and motioned for Korey.
"Do you know what happened to you out there?!"  he questioned in utter shock.
"Something I never want to experience again,"  she replied seriously.
Ashley reached over and began digging through the glove compartment of the '07 Mustang.
"Where does Andy keep the Holy Water?"  Korey heard him mumble.
"Holy Water?!  Ashley what's going on?!"  she questioned nervously.
"It's just in case.  I promise,"  he assured as he reached into the center console and pulled out a small bottle of Holy Water.  He reached on the rear view mirror and took off the rosary necklace that was dangling from it and handed it to Korey.  She gently placed it around her neck, but as soon as it touched her skin, she howled in pain.  The rosary felt like it had been melted on the sun and it was searing into her skin.  She ripped it off because of how painful it was.
"Korey!  What's happening?!"  Ashley yelled over her blood curdling screams.
She only answered by screaming louder.  Ashley had no idea what to do other than to splash her with Holy Water.  He threw it in her face hoping to make her snap out of this possession like trance.
She went crazy.  Ashley noticed her arms and neck were starting to bleed profusely, as if some unknown force was attacking her with razor blades.  Ashley had no idea what to do except for run.  He jumped out of the car and ran to the passenger's side to try to drag Korey out too.  He yanked at the door but it wouldn't open.  The doors had locked.  He pulled the key from his pocket to unlock the door, but he dropped the keys.  He fumbled around trying to get the key again, but something wouldn't let him open the door.  He panicked, while Korey was stuck inside the car being attacked by a demon.  There was no mistaking it now;  she was possessed.  And if he didn't do something, she would die.
                 To be continued....
Well I made this for the #BVB-Fanfiction-Army October Monthly Challenge. I figured Halloween and Black Veil Brides, my two favorite things! I've had this story idea for a while, so I decided now would be the perfect time to try to make it manifest. :D I'm really new at writing so any help, corrections, critique and stuff would be really helpful. :D Also if people like it, I shall make more chapters cause I've got a few more ideas on how to make this pretty interesting. :)
